Do YYC Naked!

We know it has always been a secret fantasy of yours, but instead get ready for Calgary to bare it all!

Thirty-six venues will Do YYC Naked the weekend of Sept. 29 and 30, allowing Calgarians to see both familiar places and venues they're never had a chance to visit before. "Doors Open YYC Naked is a city-wide event that invites people to see and experience aspects of buildings and spaces that have never been shared before," according to Doors Open YYC.

Doors Open YYC is an initiative continuing this year after an eight-year hiatus. The project was successful in both 2003 and 2004, but was run by volunteers who found the workload unsustainable, according to the current Board of Directors. Now, with a board of directors who contribute their talents and resources to the program, this year promises to be an exciting endeavour.

Some of the venues are Calgary's most recognizable locations: the Calgary Tower, the Talisman Centre and the Scotiabank Saddledome. Some of the venues you may not have had the chance to visit before now: the Deane House, the Reader Rock Garden or Festival Hall. All of these venues will be free to visit during the event weekend, providing a fantastic way to learn something new about YYC.

The Doors Open program originated in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1990. By 1998, the program had grown to see 19 million people visit some 28,000 sites in 44 countries. The first run of Doors Open in Canada was in Toronto in 2000 and it has spread to several other cities since.

Calgary is celebrating a lot this year, with many centennial celebrations and the designation as Canada's Cultural Capital (the last time any city will receive this designation). DoorsOpenYYC provides an engaging and educational weekend to a side of Calgary never before open to the public in this way.
