Media Tour Showcases Infrastructure Damaged by June Floods
On Aug. 8, about 15 journalists gathered in a bus to tour some areas of the city hit hardest by the June floods. After stops at the Heritage Drive and Glenmore Trail underpass — expected to open Aug. 15 — and the Riverdale Sifton pedestrian bridge along Sifton Blvd., the tour made a stop at the Erlton LRT station. One hundred metres of track near the station was damaged by the flooding and needed to be replaced. Doug Morgan, director of Calgary Transit said the routes closure during the flood was only the second time since the track had been installed in the early '80s that it was closed for rush hour.
During flooding as many as 21 bus routes were detoured and up to 13 bus routes were cancelled.
