City Releases 2013 Civic Census Results
Mayor Naheed Nenshi announced Calgary's population increased 2.62 per cent between April 2012 and April 2013 with the release of the City's Civic Census July 25.Calgary's population is now at 1,149,552, an increase of 29,327 residents, a similar level of growth seen at the same time last year. "This year, for the first time, we went high-tech in collecting Calgary's census data," said Nenshi. "By utilizing mobile data collection, the need for post collection data entry was eliminated and resulted in more timely and better quality data.
"Accurate census information is essential in decision making and planning for the City's future needs."
Highlights of the census include the community of Evanston as the city's leader in community growth, a net mirgration of 19,067 people coming to Calgary and the city's vacancy rate down from 2.82 per cent in 2012 to 2.59 per cent.
