Grant Supports Calgary's Environmentally Minded Youth

Calgary youths taking the initiative to create more eco-friendly communities could receive funding up to $1,000 through The Jack Leslie Youth Environmental Grant now accepting applications.

The grant is named for former Calgary Mayor Jack Leslie, for the positive impact he had both on the city itself as well as the environment, and is awarded to those whose projects are located in Calgary; directly benefit the local environment and are planned and implemented by youth. "It's inspiring to see how dedicated these students are to making Calgary a more sustainable and better city for everyone," said Deputy Mayor Shane Keating in the City of Calgary News Blog. "Each of us, whatever our age, has an important role to play in protecting the environment."

Past recipients include Wilma Hansens School for their Leaves and Literature Project and Henry Wise Wood Senior High School for their Youth 4 tap Club.

The grants are supported through the Jack Leslie family, City of Calgary and Youth Central. Grant application forms can be found at Calgary.ca and have a deadline of April 12. Environmentally minded youth can also take in The Mayor's Environment Expo June 4-6 at the Municipal Building.
