Local women building six homes in a week
It's Women Build Week. For the sixth year, women are coming together to build six homes in the Calgary community of Redstone for the Habitat for Humanity event.
The event, which will see 200 women constructing the homes, is an international movement bringing women together to change the lives of families in their communities. "Women Build is more than just a building project," said Leslie Tamagi, president and CEO, Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta. "It promotes women as leaders and provides an opportunity to learn building skills. It encourages team spirit, fun, learning and pride in working together to build a new home for local families in our community."
To date, Women Build is responsible for more than 2,000 homes worldwide, nine of which are in Calgary. The presenting sponsor for the Calgary event is Brookfield Residential Alberta.
"Brookfield is proud to be supporting the Women Build initiative again this year," said Gisele Danis, director of marketing and communications for Brookfield Residential Alberta. "As a community builder, we know that a home provides a strong foundation for families. We continue to partner with Habitat on this initiative because it provides an opportunity for everyone to come together to help families in need and to help build the foundation for a better future."
Women Build runs until May 10.
