Neighbour Day set for flood anniversary

The one-year anniversary of the Calgary flood is upon us and the City is encouraging local communities to celebrate the spirit of Calgary on Neighbour Day June 21.

A release from the City asks Calgarians to join with their neighbours in their given community whether it be for a block party, a barbecue or a neighbourhood cleanup.  "We've had a tough year," said Mayor Naheed Nenshi. "But it's also been a year of triumph as we showed the world who we are and how we help each other. On June 21, lets remember what we've lost, but celebrate what we've gained: an even stronger community. Get to know your neighbours, it's one of the most rewarding things you can do."

The City has prepared a website for Neighbour Day to find ideas on things to do as well as simple tools to help organize block parties or cleanups. Communities are also encouraged to share their plans via social media.
