Developers submit Stadium Shopping Centre proposal

Redevelopment is being envisioned as a 800,840-square-foot mixed-use hub.

Marshall Tittemore Architects (MTa) confirmed it has submitted a development permit application for the redevelopment of the Stadium Shopping Centre that would create a proposed 800,840-square-foot mixed-use hub in Calgary's northwest.

Over the past nine months, MTA has been working in collaboration with current shopping centre owner Western Securities, as well as Stuart Olsen on the proposed development.

"MTa is excited to continue its support to the entire team in professing this proposed development in the near future, transforming this area into a social diverse mixed-use urban environment," the company said in a release.

Western Securities said it expects the City of Calgary to work through processing the application over the next three to six months.

The proposed open-concept development is expected to include a mix of 70 one- to two-bedroom residential units that would be part of a four-storey 97,000-square-foot mixed-used building housing a main-level grocery store and restaurant.

The redevelopment would also include a 200,000 square-foot 14-storey mixed-use building that would house 189 one- and two-bedroom units, as well as a main-level drug store and other retail units.

The site would be the future home of a 143,000-square-foot eight-storey medical office building with main-level retail units and potential day care, as well as a 139,000-square-foot 11-storey hotel with 189 rooms , 10-storey 216,000-square-foot office building with main-level retail units  and two-level underground parking structure that would include 120-stall bicycle parking.

It will be rounded out by a "programmable" central plaza, pedestrian green link, outdoor patios and accessible green roofs.

At a recent presentation to the University Heights Community Association, Western Securities said it anticipates construction could start as early as the end of this year.
