Northeast Calgary new-community roundup
Home to a broad selection of communities focused on nature and quality of life, the "new northeast" offers an accessible location, convenient amenities and plenty of green space. Here are a few new communities that are capturing attention in northeast Calgary.
Cityscape
Launched in 2013, Cityscape's location south of Country Hills Boulevard N.E. and east of Métis Trail gives residents easy access to the airport, as well as several major routes in and out of the city.
The community features a wealth of green space – a 46-hectare (115-acre) environmental reserve with interpretive wetland area is at the neighbourhood's core, while the Rotary/Mattamy Greenway pathway system is on the doorstep.
New showhomes opened in the fall – the Slate and the Orchid – with another two opening at the end of June 2020. Mattamy's signature wide-lot homes will also be released in June. The final 175 acres of land in the community will eventually include two school sites, a cricket pitch, a new park and medium-density mid-rise sites. A commercial development will be opening in summer of 2021.
Karla Schultz, marketing manager for Mattamy Homes in Calgary, says now is a great time to buy in Cityscape.
"Specific quick-move-in homes are priced at $100,000 less, with a $2,000 spending spree at select retailers of the customer's choosing," she said.
Cornerbrook
More than 30 per cent of Cornerbrook is dedicated to green space, starting with the 180-acre Central Park, which is equipped with three ponds and ample pathways for walking and biking.
"The park connects to the Greenway system, giving residents access to over 140 kilometres of cycle pathways, making it the perfect spot for those looking to combine their outdoor enthusiasm with the convenience of city living," said Kalida Manarin, marketing manager for WestCreek Developments, the developer behind the community.
Buyers can choose from three home styles – duplex, laned or move-up – and each features classic architectural details.
"Many homes back on to green space. The community is really designed around living on this large Central Park," said Manarin.
In December, the developer released the community's second phase. At final build-out, Cornerbrook will feature 1,500 homes.
Redstone
A tremendous success story, Redstone is now nearly 80 per cent complete.
"What makes Redstone stand out, and stay true to its vision, is the emphasis on open green spaces and connectivity throughout the community," said Laura Field, marketing co-ordinator at Qualico Communities, the developer behind Redstone. "The pathways and parks really pop when you drive through the community – it's very open and inviting."
The community will eventually feature more than 2,500 trees, 13 community parks and 2.3 kilometres of walking and biking pathways that connect with the Rotary/Mattamy Greenway system. Redstone Plaza, the community's commercial centre, was unveiled earlier this year, adding a broad selection of amenities to the mix.
The community offers a variety of housing styles, including townhomes, duplexes and single-family models. In 2020, a new park and playground will open.
