Community Profile: Redstone
The community of Redstone in Calgary's new northeast has been a resounding success since its launch in 2010.At its inception, almost nine years ago, the master-planned community introduced unique product types and recreational amenities that were not part of the traditional offerings in Calgary at the time – products like "Participarks" and garden-lot homes with verandas fronting onto park space.
"Redstone stands out because it's a community people want to move up to," said Laura Field, marketing co-ordinator at Redstone developer Qualico Communities. "It is a place where you see a diverse mix of families and housing types. There are young professionals who are buying their first homes, and multi-generational living situations."
The community is now in full swing, and almost 80 per cent complete. At final build out, there will be 2,500 single-family homes and almost 1,000 multi-family residences. The latter is a housing type that Field notes, "is becoming increasingly popular due to the affordability for the square footage." She adds Qualico is making the multi-family decision even easier by offering a $15,000 savings on any duplex model.

Townhomes in Redstone are also an in-demand choice. Take for example Zen Redstone, a collection of two-bedroom, two-storey townhomes sustainably built by Avalon Master Builder and starting at $284,900. Each home features third-party energy-efficiency certification, an added plus that Avalon's Matt House says, "makes the project stand out."
"We also add a 1.5-inch-thick layer of ridged insulation to the exterior of the home," said House. "This eliminates thermal bridging and makes these homes some of the most energy-efficient homes in the city, without added cost."
