Community Profile: Cranston is a nature lover's dream
Appealing to a variety of demographics, the dynamic community of Cranston offers a taste of the good life."It's a great community with so much to offer, including schools and shopping right in the area," said Justin Castelino, marketing manager for Brookfield Residential, the developer behind upper Cranston and the niche community of Cranston's Riverstone.
Since its launch, the master-planned community of upper Cranston has evolved into an established and amenity-rich neighbourhood with almost 19,000 residents. Located in Calgary's burgeoning southeast, it's bounded by the Bow River, Stoney Trail and Seton Boulevard S.E.
The community is minutes from the urban village of Seton, home to a bevy of restaurants and retail offerings, a YMCA, a library and the South Health Campus hospital.
"The biggest amenity is all of the natural park space leading through the community and along the Bow River, which offers some of the world's best fly fishing." - Justin Castelino, Brookfield Residential marketing manager
Cranston also offers proximity to, and immersion in, nature. Bordering an escarpment overlooking the Bow River, it provides residents with 400 acres of green space and beautiful views of the valley.
"The biggest amenity is all of the natural park space leading through the community and along the Bow River, which offers some of the world's best fly fishing," said Castelino.
Cranston's Riverstone, the latest addition to the community, is also a nature enthusiast's haven. Homes are dotted along the river and around two naturalized ponds.
All that glorious nature is what attracted Heather and Ben Cox to the community. "It's amazing. There is so much wildlife," said Heather Cox. "The other day, I saw a moose and her baby down by the river. The kids love it."
She also can't say enough about the sense of community. The master plan ensures each home is built within steps of one of the area's ten parks. It's a design that sparks interaction. "It really feels like a community here," said Cox. "We all know each other – we have block parties and barbecues and are all connected via a Facebook page."
Riverstone is still evolving, and at final build out will be home to 3,500 people. A variety of housing types are available, including townhomes, single-family homes, and estate and custom homes.
