Community Profile: West Springs
Location, location, location. "That's one of the top things that this community has going for it. Location and amenities," said Cindy Arevalo, co-area sales manager for Trico Homes's new townhome project in the Wentworth area of West Springs.Bounded by Springbank to the west, Old Banff Coach Road to the north, Bow Trail to the south and 69th Street S.W. to the east, West Springs boasts easy access to the downtown core and the Rocky Mountains. With over 10,000 residents, it's a young and vibrant community where 97 per cent of the population is under retirement age.
West Springs was originally nothing but rolling, grass-covered ranchlands that were considered part of the acreage community of Springbank. In 1995, the land was annexed by the City, and the new community was established in 2001. Wentworth is a more recent addition, as is the upscale West 85th shopping plaza, with its bevy of downtown-style eateries and amenities, including Mercato West, Vin Room, Fergus and Bix, and summertime staple My Favourite Ice Cream Shoppe.
"It really is all about location. I'm close to everything. I can walk to some really great restaurants and pubs – the same restaurants and pubs that I would find in the inner city. I can even walk to the grocery store if I want to." - Meredith Trent, West Springs resident
West Springs resident Meredith Trent, who works remotely three days a week from her home office, can't say enough good things about the community. "It really is all about location," she said. "I'm close to everything. I can walk to some really great restaurants and pubs – the same restaurants and pubs that I would find in the inner city. I can even walk to the grocery store if I want to."
Although census results indicate the community is highly car-centric, with 84 per cent of the population driving to work, that's changing as new amenities in the community allow for greater walkability and work opportunities that are closer to home.
