Cycle for affordable homeownership

In its eleventh year, Ride Through the Rockies is an annual fundraising event in support of Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta. Founded by Ken Crockett, Vice President of Star Building Materials, the event brings together leaders from the home building industry and combines Crockett’s passions for philanthropy and cycling.

From August 23 to 25, forty participants will cycle hundreds of kilometres through the Rockies to raise $300,000 for Habitat for Humanity. The ride will take place in Invermere, and all funds raised will support affordable homeownership opportunities across Southern Alberta.

"As members of the home building industry, we believe in the power of hard work, determination, and community spirit. This philosophy, combined with the passion of cyclists from across Western Canada led to the creation of Ride Through the Rockies in 2013,” Crockett said.

“Through this fundraising event, over $1.3 million has been raised and we are proud of the significant impact we continue to make in partnership with Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta to provide affordable homeownership to many deserving families.”

Last year, Habitat delivered more than $10 million in affordable housing and has plans for an additional $24 million, constructing homes in Calgary, Airdrie, and High River.

“Ride Through the Rockies embodies Habitat for Humanity’s mission of bringing the community together to help families build stability through affordable home ownership. The dedication and fundraising efforts of Star Building Materials and each cyclist are inspiring,” said Gerrad Oishi, President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta.

“The need for affordable homeownership continues to rise, and their support is crucial to our ability to help more families.”
