Two decades of dedication to the community
Christine Richard became a Friend of the Foundation 20 years ago when the CREB® REALTOR Community Foundation committed to a $1.5 million donation to Crestwood Affordable Housing Development for a project that provided long-term housing to those in need.
“I became inspired and wanted to be part of that mission,” Christine says.
To this day, Christine continues to be motivated by the work that the CRCF does to enhance the lives of people in Calgary and area.
For her, the most rewarding part of being a Friend of the Foundation is witnessing the Foundation’s positive impact on the community by supporting diverse charitable organizations.
As a CREB® volunteer, Christine has also joined committees focused on housing issues, where she gained a deeper understanding of the challenges that people from all walks of life face when it comes to housing.
“My perspective broadened, and I strengthened my commitment to making a difference,” she says.
“Being a Friend of the Foundation reinforces the importance of giving back and reminds me of the power we have as a community to create lasting change.”
Richard adds that it’s been inspiring to see the positive changes that result from the CREB® REALTOR Community Foundation grants.
For example, in 2022, the CREB® REALTOR® Community Foundation supported the Big Build Campaign with a $1 million Legacy Grant for the expansion of Ronald McDonald House Charities® Alberta's Calgary location.
This award is helping create an additional 91-family suite facility, expected to open early this year.
The Foundation has also supported organizations such as Discovery House Family Violence Prevention Society, which serves women and children leaving domestic violence, and HomeSpace, a charity that builds and manages affordable housing for vulnerable people in Calgary.
For Christine, this two-decade journey has been incredibly rewarding. As a REALTOR®, she says that being a Friend of the Foundation has reinforced the importance of giving back and enriched her connections with like-minded individuals who share the same passion for community building.
“Every REALTOR® can make a difference with a simple monthly contribution,” she says.
“Friends of the Foundation, in particular, is such a worthy cause – and I’m honoured to be part of this mission.”
