83% Comfortable

In its 2013 Spring Survey, the Canadian Association of Accredited Mortgage Professionals (CAAMP) found 83 per cent of respondents are comfortable with their loan to value ratio on their primary residence.

When it comes to debt, first-time homebuyers show the most concern at 65 per cent compared to 23 per cent of other homebuyers. Canadians seem to show a lot of concern for their neighbours as well with 41 per cent replying they were somewhat concerned with debt other Canadians hold down from 58 per cent in 2012.

Spring Reno Fever

It's no surprise home renovations are on the minds of many Canadians in spring. It is after all, a time of renewal.

But this year it appears more Canadians are in the reno mood according to findings in the Scotiabank Mortgage Landscape Study. It says 44 per cent of Canadian homeowners are planning significant renovations to their homes in the next two years.

Taking an Interest in Rec Properties

In a survey released by Royal LePage, interest rates factor "hugely" into Canadians' decisions when it comes to purchasing a recreational property.

The survey, which polled people intending to purchase a recreation property within the next five years, found 82 per cent of respondents said interest rates will influence their decision to buy while 82 per cent feel added urgency to buy a recreation property while rates are low.

The $52 Million Question

The City of Calgary has $52 million of provincial tax room kicking around and is asking local residents how best to spend it.

"This is a significant amount of unbudgeted money," said Mayor Naheed Nenshi. "We've debated five options in council—all of which reflect the priorities of Calgarians— and this is our opportunity to engage citizens to hear what they think before council makes a decision in July."

With spring now in full swing, many Calgarians will be taking advantage of the warm weather by cycling along the city's extensive path network. With many Calgarians storing their two-wheeled transport along with many of their other summer toys in their garage, residents should take care to ensure all their belongings stay secure. In 2011, there were 1,191 bikes reported stolen in the city, although many bike thefts go unreported. With many break and enters, offenders gained access through unlocked doors or have stolen garage door openers from vehicles to gain access. Tips for planting your favourite herbs with easy access

I realize I am a lazy cook. If a recipe calls for herbs I don't have I will change the recipe rather than run to the store. To simplify summer meals I plant my most loved herbs in pots and leave them on my back step for easy access. This works for gardeners with either estates or the tiniest stoop or balcony.
