Bearspaw and Springbank

Compared to February 2012, combined condo apartment and condo townhouse sales in Calgary this February increased by 11 per cent. The boost in condo sales, in part, can be attributed to a tightening market on homes $500,000 and less available in the city.

Canadian Business Remaining Confident

According to the latest BMO Small Business Confidence Report, Canadian businesses remain confident in their business prospects and the state of the economy for 2013, with British Columbia and Atlantic Canada leading the way.

Based on their answers to a series of questions, the majority (62%) of business owners have a positive outlook for 2013. Again, businesses in Atlantic Canada (70%) and British Columbia (69%) lead the charge as the most optimistic.

Profits Drop to 8 Year Low

The Conference Board of Canada is reporting industry profits will hit an eight year low in 2013 due to declining housing starts and higher costs in their Canadian Industrial Outlook: Canada's Residential Construction Industry – Winter 2013.

"A correction is occurring in the housing market," said Maxim Armstrong, senior economist. "Strong building in recent years has exhausted demand.

Time to Buy For Gen Y

Young adults in the Generation Y category are not so different from their parents in one important way – this generation, born after 1982, share the same goal of buying their own home.

In a survey released by Royal LePage Real Estate, four-in-five (80.9 per cent) of Generation Ys surveyed indicated they have plans to move to another primary residence at some point in the future, with the majority of those living in the prairie provinces (62.6 per cent) stating they planned to buy rather than rent.
