Info session: Currie Barracks redevelopment

On Feb. 25, the City of Calgary is reporting back to residents on changes to the proposed Currie Barracks redevelopment following public engagement sessions held last year.

"We heard what citizens had to say about the proposal, now we want to let the public know how its feedback was used, what has changed in the application and what will be included in the recommendation to Calgary Planning Commission," said Craig Sklenar, senior planner with the City's Planning Department.

Budget #YYC: Water talks

Calgary City Council continued it's budget talks for Action Plan 2015-2018 today.

This morning council continued its discussion on the city's utilities and environmental protection, including Calgary's water services.

"The numbers are extraordinary and I start to worry that we are building a system in water and wastewater we will just not be able to afford in future generations," said Mayor Naheed Nenshi to city staff.

With power outages across the city, primarily in the downtown core, and with flood waters converging on the Calgary Municipal Building, it was up to information technology staff to keep the City online - primarily from Calgary's Emergency Operations Centre, but also from staff's own homes.

Open house: Future concepts for Anderson LRT Station

The City is looking for residents input on the future of Anderson Station.

The Office of Land Servicing and Housing (OLSH) will be at Southcentre Mall today from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. to share the latest information with Calgarians regarding transit oriented development at Anderson Station.

"Last year, we had hundreds of citizens participate in our public engagement process where they were asked to provide input into four concepts that showed different options for what the 20-acre site could look like in the future," said John Potts, manager, Land Servicing, OLSH.

Flood preparation open houses

For those affected by, or interested in learn more about flooding, the City is hosting two sessions to provide information on what people can do about flood potential this year.

Staff from departments such as the Calgary Emergency Management Agency, Calgary Fire Department, Development and Building Approvals, Water Service and Water Resources, Finance and Supply, Community and Neighbourhood Services and the Flood Recovery Operations centre will be at the sessions to answer questions.

New YYC cemetery: feedback wanted

City of Calgary parks are looking for input and feedback from residents concerning a new cemetery planned for the city's southeast.

"Cemeteries are an essential service provided by The City of Calgary to and for Calgarians and we're looking for feedback on three design concepts," said Gary Daudlin, Parks Cemeteries superintendent. "Citizens' input on these designs will help us ensure the new cemetery meets the diverse needs of Calgarians now and in the years to come."

On April 26, the City will launch it's PUPPY (Pick Up Pooch's Poo Yourself) program at River Park. The program gives Calgarians a chance to learn about the importance of picking up and disposing of pet waste to ensure parks stay healthy and clean for everyone.

City introduces new flood prep website

Now that the sun has returned and the snow is starting to melt, thoughts may be turning to summer flooding.

The City recently held a press conference in order to outline flood mitigation measures being taken for Calgary from here on out since the 1-in-100 year flood that devastated the area last summer.
