Okotoks Votes to Lift Expansion Ban

It is already – at least according to its mayor – the biggest town in Alberta, but the stage has been set for the town of Okotoks to grow even larger.

Following much debate and growing pressure, Okotoks town council voted 5-2 in favour of eliminating the town's population cap of 30,000.

Getting to Know Nosehill

Reportedly taking its name from the distinctive (at least if you use a little imagination) nose-like hillsides that surround the area, the Nose Hill Natural Environment Park – as it's officially known – is one of the largest municipal parks in North America. Encompassing 11 square kilometres of native grassland in northwest Calgary, the park was created in 1980 after citizens spoke out against a plan to turn the area into a residential development.

Pop The Question - Tom Thivener

This past June, the City introduced its first "bike guy", cycling coordinator Tom Thivener , who left the desert sun of Tucson, Arizona for Calgary's cooler climes. Thivener will be taking the lead on the implementation of Calgary's new Cycling Strategy and took the time to chat with CREB® about his new responsibilities, where he likes to ride and upcoming cycling projects for the city.

Living Affordably in Calgary

For many, owning a home is a dream that can take years of saving to accomplish. For many lower income Calgarians, those dreams come true thanks to the many affordable housing options available in the city.

In 2011, a survey of non-market rental housing in Calgary revealed 31 providers of non-market housing in Calgary. They manage 584 projects that provide 11,759 units of subsidized housing for low-income Calgarians as well as 465 Calgary Housing Company Projects.
