Declutter for a cause: where to donate your unwanted household items in Calgary

It's time for spring cleaning, and while the excitement surrounding the Marie Kondo Method has died down somewhat since its peak, decluttering never goes out of style.

However, if you're ready to part with some of your stuff, don't just throw it in the trash. There are countless charitable organizations across the Calgary area that accept all manner of gently used household goods, from clothing and books to electronics and furniture.

Historical Home Spotlight: R. B. Bennett House

Year of Construction: 1912

Address: 802 Prospect Ave. S.W.

Community: Upper Mount Royal

Architectural Style: Georgian Revival

Oddly enough, the most famous owner of this stately brick home in Calgary's upscale Mount Royal neighbourhood never actually lived there. As the house's modern moniker suggests, that owner was R. B. Bennett, Canada's 11th prime minister and a man who, despite growing up in New Brunswick and spending his final years in England, is indelibly linked with Calgary's history.

Canmore's red-hot housing market is seeing "unprecedented" levels of activity, with no signs of slowing down

Right now, there's no way to describe Canmore's housing market other than "hot."

"I'm always hesitant to use that word because you can't paint everything with the same brush, but the statistics don't lie," said Rob Stevens of RE/MAX Alpine Realty.

Radius Rising: Bridgeland condo project is a welcome sign of progress for Bucci Developments

When Mike Bucci completes his Radius condo project in early 2019, it's unlikely to be the end of his company's love affair with The Bridges — a redevelopment in the north inner-city neighbourhood of Bridgeland.

In fact, the vice-president development for Bucci Developments says when the City puts the remaining three parcels of land in the last phase of The Bridges on the market he will be first in line to buy.

"We're calling the City every day telling them we're interested," he said. "We love Bridgeland and it's a pretty special site."

Under the right circumstances, moving a house can be a win-win for buyers and sellers

Now and then, Calgarians going for a morning walk in their community are stunned to discover that a house on their street has disappeared overnight.

No, the house wasn't whisked away by a tornado like in The Wizard of Oz – it's all part of a a way to "recycle" homes that ends up benefiting landowners in two locations.

Walk it, bike it, like it: for many city-centre denizens, urban living is all about simplicity and connectedness

Jenna Dutton and her fiancé have called the city centre community of Ramsay home for the past two years. Prior to that, Dutton lived in next-door Inglewood.

"I'm drawn to the area because of the local shops, the heritage buildings, the diversity, the cool music scene and that everything is within walking distance," said Dutton.

In other words, Dutton is drawn to the urban lifestyle. It's a way of life characterized by walkability, community diversity and proximity of amenities, something she was exposed to while living in Montreal.
