Partnering for success

Tim Logel and Ryan Ockey team up to bring Logel Homes to life

For more than three decades, Tim Logel has worked at Cardel Homes, and for the past 17 years he has been a 50-50 partner with Ryan Ockey in Cardel Lifestyles, the company's successful multi-family division.

Now, the two have teamed up again to bring Logel Homes to the Calgary marketplace and to continue to offer affordability and quality in their product.

"Logel Homes has been two years in the making," said Logel, president and COO of Logel Homes. "I approached Ryan with the idea and he thought the same as I did, that Logel Homes would provide an opportunity to grow market share."

But, for Logel, there was another reason for reaching out with the idea of creating the new multi-family entity.

Together in Walden

With the purchase of a three bedroom townhome in Walden, a young Calgary couple embarks upon their new life together

On a warm spring day in March, Kristen Lee and Joshua Gregory, both 22, grabbed some coffee to go and set out on a day of touring show homes. They just want to see what was available and enjoy the day, but when they came upon a three bedroom townhome design at Walden Place by Cardel Lifestyles in the southeast community of Walden, they were sold.

At the time, they were both living at home with their parents and had excellent jobs. Kristen is a chemist and Joshua works for a security company, so they had a decent nest egg saved up. They mulled it over for a bit, and a week later, at the beginning of April, they signed the papers and put down their deposit.

Crowd control

Southeast district facing increased competition from new home industry

Calgary's resale residential housing market continues to reveal its many layers, with experts singling out the southeast district as an area of the city struggling in the face of intense competition from the homebuilding industry.

This comes on the heels of CREB®'s recently released housing summary for September that indicated prices in other instances are exhibiting increased stability.

CREB® chief economist Ann-Marie Lurie noted home prices in the southeast have struggled more acutely than other districts in Calgary despite indicators that would initially suggest otherwise.

Hard wired

Making a case against Wi-Fi in today's homes

A6

It's a typical evening at home. Netflix is streaming on the big screen; the kids are downstairs playing on online game while blasting tunes from Spotify or Apple Music.

Mom is at her laptop catching up on some work through a VPN connection to her company's internal network, while dad's watching YouTube on his smartphone. Someone's probably checking Facebook, too.

And most, maybe all, of this is happening without a wired connection.

Wireless Internet is everywhere in our homes, but homeowners may rely in it more than they need to, say industry experts.
