Northwest Calgary new-community roundup
Life in Calgary's northwest is set to become even better, thanks to a collection of new communities offering an array of housing options and lifestyles.
Arbour Lake West
Sales launched in mid-September on Hopewell Residential's latest endeavour – Arbour Lake West. The new 43-acre community is an extension of the 30-year-old established community of Arbour Lake and is just minutes from a variety of amenities, including the Crowfoot LRT Station and shopping at Crowfoot Crossing.
"Arbour Lake West is in every sense of the word a complete community," said Paul Taylor, president and COO of Hopewell Residential. "Everything is included for its new residents and it provides innovative, cutting-edge and highly efficient new housing."
Views of the mountains and quick access to the downtown core are big draws, as are the housing selections. Interior design selections take inspiration from fashion trends – the classic white dress shirt, the timeless grey trench coat and the little black dress.
A presentation centre is currently open, with two show-suite condos set for unveiling in the new year.
Greenwich
Located adjacent to WinSport at Canada Olympic Park, Greenwich is a 59-acre, mixed-use community that will be home to roughly 1,000 multi-family units and approximately 150,000 square feet of retail and office space.
Anchored by the Calgary Farmers' Market West, the community's vision was inspired by its namesake – New York City's Greenwich Village. Here, architecture will emulate that artsy vibe, with multi-family homes crafted in the Federal and Modern Warehouse styles.
"Greenwich is a destination for active Calgarians who want the best of all worlds," said Mathew Backhouse, assistant manager of land development for Melcor Developments. "It's mountainside, urban living with a contemporary feel that balances work and play and makes it easy to live."
The builder group includes Madison Avenue Group, Landmark Homes and Cove Properties. Home prices start in the low $200,000s.
Livingston
A master-planned community by Brookfield Residential, Livingston's vision embraces connection, culture, innovation, collaboration and the concept of a complete community. It's a place where residents can live, work, learn and play.
Life here revolves around a solid suite of amenities – two playgrounds, a soccer field, a fully landscaped pond with walking paths, and a 35,000-square-foot homeowners' clubhouse. The clubhouse will be completed in the fall of 2020, offering residents a place to connect. A six-acre park, tennis courts, gymnasium, outdoor amphitheatre, spray park, hockey and skating rinks, and a commercial kitchen and banquet space are some of the facility's features.
Home designs run the gamut from condos to estate homes, with pricing starting in the mid- $200,000s. The builder group includes Brookfield Residential, Morrison Homes, Daytona Homes, Homes by Avi, Jayman Built, Avi Urban, Cedarglen Homes and Excel Homes.
"The community truly has everything that you will ever need close to home, with a wide range of product and builder choice," said Brendan McCashin, senior development manager at Brookfield Residential.
University District
This new community is sprouting up on 200 acres of endowment lands surrounding the University of Calgary. Developed by West Campus Development Trust, the master-planned University District takes a collaborative, people-first approach to design, with sustainability and connectivity at its core.
With a distinctive, mixed-use High Street and a three-acre Central Park where residents can stroll along walking paths and enjoy activities like outdoor theatre, life in the community is designed to emulate a small town.
Retailers include Save-On-Foods, Orange Theory, Analog Coffee and Cineplex VIP Cinemas. Adding to the mix, the Alt Hotel by Groupe Germaine Hotels – a 15-storey, 156-room boutique offering designed by LeMayMichaud Architecture Design – will open in 2021.
Multi-family options range from brownstones and condos to retirement living with care options. Avi Urban has just released its Argyle project and Truman Homes is now selling Esquire.
